Although 2020 and the first few months of 2021 have presented a genuine challenge for everyone, due to the devastating effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic on both society as a whole and our business and industrial sectors, AFEPASA has maintained, and even strengthened, its firm commitment to research and the development of new ecological and sustainable solutions for agriculture.
In fact, as Daniel García-Seco, Director of R&D and Laboratory at AFEPASA, points out, the company’s commitment to innovation, focused on continuous improvement, is and will continue to be one of the cornerstones on which the recovery of the global economy must be built.
As evidence of this commitment, AFEPASA has been carrying out an ambitious process of attracting and bringing back talent by incorporating professionals who had been working outside Spain into its R&D team. At the same time, the company has been expanding its facilities to support the continuous improvement of its quality management processes, formulation development and R&D&i.
Thus, as a result of public-private collaboration and thanks to public support and funding through several projects carried out with the support of the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI), Rovira i Virgili University and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), focused on the development of new microbiological products for agricultural applications, the company has just inaugurated innovative R&D&i facilities. This project involved a major investment in the integration of a ‘clean room’ and the acquisition of new equipment, complementing the facilities already in place.
Since its inauguration, this new laboratory has been dedicated to the company’s routine quality control processes, based on the analysis of product samples and including up to 10 different testing parameters, as well as to the technical implementation of various R&D&i projects.
In this regard, it is a biotechnology laboratory specially equipped both for the scientific analysis of the physicochemical properties of new products and, above all, for the analysis and development of solutions based on microbiology applied to agriculture, always upholding AFEPASA’s commitment to actively contributing to the sustainable and ecological improvement of our agricultural sector.
Ultimately, in the words of García-Seco, the aim behind the development and launch of these innovative facilities is to establish Europe’s largest private research laboratory specializing in the analysis and development of sulphur applications in agriculture.
Our firm commitment to R&D&i has been officially recognized through the Innovative SME Seal, a distinction awarded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation to organizations that have demonstrated their innovative nature through their activities and have received public funding over the past three years to implement R&D&i projects, as is the case with AFEPASA through the support received from the CDTI, an entity under the aforementioned ministry.
